Kansas District LCMS Board of Directors

David Bruns

Dave is a lifelong member of the Kansas District, attending St. Luke's-Kansas City from 1959-83, and Christ-Topeka from 1983 to 2016. He is currently a member of Christ-Overland Park. In 1981, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Education and received his Juris Doctorate in 1984 from Washburn Law School. After practicing law for 15 years, he became a District Judge in Shawnee County. In 2011, he became a Judge of the Kansas Court of Appeals and he continues to serve in this position. For many years, Dave served on the Board of Education of the Topeka Lutheran School. At the District level, he has previously served as a member of the Family Life Committee and the Adjudication Committee. At the Synodical level, he has served on the Board for International Mission and he is the former Chair of the Board of District and Congregational Services, which was responsible for K-12 Lutheran Education, Stewardship, Youth Ministry, and Family Life Ministry. In addition to many other civic activities, Dave served as the 2015-16 President of Optimist International. He and his wife, Shawn, have two adult children, Nate and Elise, and a granddaughter, Emory.

Rick Hanebutt

Rick graduated from Concordia River Forest in 1974. He later received his MS in Administration at Univ. of WI, Oshkosh in 1979 and received his Specialist degree in Administration at Central MO Univ. Warrensburg in 1995.  Rick served as a Lutheran educator and principal until 2014 when he retired from the teaching ministry.   Rick taught at St Stephen Lutheran School, Horicon, WI; oricon WI, Trinity LutheranSchool, Ft Dodge, IATmmmmmmm   Trinity Lutheran School, Ft. Dodge, IA; Zion Lutheran School, Decatur, IN; St Paul Lutheran School, Farmington, MO; St Paul’s Lutheran School, Concordia, MO; Redeemer Lutheran School, Kokomo, IN and Hope Lutheran School, Shawnee, KS.  He has served on various synodical, district and community boards and committees throughout his ministry.  Rick and his wife Kathy (Hentsch, RF, 74)) have two children (Seth and Gretchen) and two grandchildren.

Ruth Holste

Ruth lives in northwest Kansas near Atwood.  She and her husband, Harlan, operate a farm raising red angus cattle and growing corn and wheat. A native of northeast Kansas, she is a graduate of Kansas State University, with a degree in economics. Ruth and Harlan have been married for 34 years and have three children: Andi and husband, Dallas, Adam and wife Chelsie, and Bethany and husband Dusty.  She also has one lovely granddaughter, Hadley Kate, who is 17 months old.  At Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church of Atwood, she serves on the Finance Committee and teaches Midweek.  She enjoys traveling to visit their children, gardening and baking.

Before his retirement, Lee served Trinity in Mission and Shawnee as Associate Pastor for six years and Senior Pastor for 18 years. He also served congregations in Kirkwood, Mo., Tacoma, Washington, and York, Pa. He served on the staff of the Board of Youth Ministry LCMS after graduating from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, (72-76). Lee currently is Circuit Counselor for Circuit 3 North, and serves as the chair for the District’s Circuit Counselors. He has two married children, Aaron and Sarah, and four grandchildren. 
Lee is an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and loves to kayak. 

Larry Junker

Larry Junker is a life-long Missouri Synod Lutheran. He was born and raised in Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. In June of 1967 he married Kristen Spencer and they have four grown children and eight grandchildren.  Shortly after marriage they moved to St. Paul, MN where he worked for Sperry UNIVAC (now known as UNISYS). In 1979 they moved to Winfield, KS where Larry became the Vice-President for Development for St. John’s College. After the college closed in 1986, he worked as the Executive Director of the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce. After seven plus years Larry was employed by IKON Office Solutions first as a Technical Engineer and later as an account executive. He retired in 2006 and became the Executive Director of the St. John’s College Alumni Association, a part-time position he currently holds. In 2002 Larry entered the Kansas District’s Lay Leadership Program and graduated in 2004. Larry looks forward to serving another three years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas District of the LCMS.

Sue Kleber
Board of Caring Ministry

Sue is a graduate of Concordia, Seward, Nebraska and was recently recognized for serving 40 years in the ministry of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod where she has been a lifetime member.  Sue received her Master in Education and Bachelor of Science in Education, both at Concordia.  She received specializations in Spanish from Friends University, Wichita, Kansas; Building Administrator from Concordia, Seward; and English as a Second Language from the State of Kansas.  The gift of leadership was nourished early in elected positions in 4-H, FHA, Girls’ State, and class projects, including achieving valedictorian.  Sue has taught at Central Lutheran School, Newhall, Iowa, St John’s Lutheran School, Battle Creek, Nebraska, St. John Lutheran School, Chaska, Minnesota, Holy Cross Lutheran School and Bethany Lutheran School, Wichita, Kansas, Immanuel Lutheran School, Columbus, Nebraska, Faith Lutheran School, Derby, Kansas, U.S.D #259 and Magdalen Catholic School, Wichita.  Duties included Bible study teacher, volleyball and cheerleading coaching, playground committees, cherub choir director, youth director, and she served as principal at Bethany and Immanuel.  Sue has served on various synodical, district, and civic community boards and committees, including HUB, LWML, AAL, adult choirs, curricular, newsletter editor, fund-raising, and Singles Ministry.  A state licensed educator in K-9 elementary, K-9 administration, K-12 Spanish, and K-6, 6-12 ESOL, her teaching ministry has been richly blessed with a focus on Bible study, Christian fellowship, and prayer.  She and her husband, Tom, are sponsors to 12 godchildren, and enjoy nieces, nephews, family, friends, and traveling in God’s amazing world.

Rev. Peter K. Lange

Rev. Lange served as Senior Pastor of St. John’s, Topeka from 1999 until 2015 when he was elected District President. He also served as 1st Vice President of the Kansas District from 2012 to 2015. Prior to his service in Kansas he was Associate Pastor of St. Paul’s in Concordia, Missouri for nine years. He is a 1984 graduate of Concordia College in River Forest, Illinois and a 1988 graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he also earned an S.T.M. in New Testament studies. President Lange and his wife Marcia have four daughters.

Rev. David Meier

Rev. Meier presently serves at St. Peter's, Humboldt. Past parishes where he has served in Kansas are St. Matthew, Nortonville and Mt. Calvary, Marysville. He has previously the Kansas District as Secretary, Circuit Counselor and District/Synod Support Team. He graduated from St. John-Winfield, Concordia Senior College-Ft. Wayne, IN and Concordia Theological Seminary-Ft. Wayne, IN in 1978.

David is a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in McPherson, where he has served as evangelism steward, education steward and planning steward. He has also been the lead usher for the past 3 years. He has been a member of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod since his baptism. David served on the Kansas District Nominating Committee from 2009-2012 and he has served 3 years on the District Board of Directors. 
David has been married to his wife, Mary, for 18 years. They have four children – Justin, Erin, Amy and Adam – and nine grandchildren. He works for LSI Williams Nursery, managing a 7,000 head pig nursery near Galva, KS.

Tim Ohlde

Tim is a graduate of Kansas State University. His occupation is Bank President. Tim is a member at St. John, Palmer where his service to the church has included Congregation Chair, Elder, Sunday School and Midweek Teacher, Building Committee Chair and member of the choir. He has also served twice as a delegate to the District Convention. Tim also has a strong sense of community involvement. Special gifts include public speaking, teaching and administration.

Rev. Justin Panzer was baptized into the Christian faith at Peace Lutheran Church - Greensburg and confirmed into the Christian faith at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church - Kinsley.  He is at 1996 graduate of the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Education.  He enrolled at the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1998 and spent one year doing a seminary exchange program with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England (ELCE).  Upon graduation from Concordia Seminary in 2003, he accepted the call to serve Faith Lutheran, Abilene.  Justin is married to the former Shelli Schnoebelen.  They have two children - Eli and Grier.  They enjoy the outdoors and sporting events together.

Rev. Rick Rostek

Rev. Rick Rostek was born in Terre Haute, IN, baptized at Zion Lutheran Church-Ferguson, MO, and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church in St. Charles, MO. After college, Rick worked in the air quality consulting field for 11 years. In 1997, Rick enrolled at Concordia Seminary-St. Louis.  Upon graduation in 2001, Rick accepted the call to Immanuel-Norton. Rick is the 4th Vice President of the Kansas District, a member of the Adult Education Committee, President of Norton CARES, Norton Ministerial Alliance Recording Secretary, and involved in other volunteer activities in the community. Rick is married the former Lois Hall. They have one child, their daughter, Valery. Rick and his family enjoy camping and the outdoors and in recent years have traveled to such places as Redwoods National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls, Carlsbad Caverns, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Richard Schotte

Rich is a lifelong member of Immanuel, Bremen.  He is married to Ruth for 49 years and was blessed with 4 children Timothy (deceased) Amy, Kevin and William and 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.  Rich has a grain and livestock operation along with his two sons.  He has served his congregation in many positions ; including School board, Trustee, Church elder, and Chair for the congregation.  He is a member of church choir, taught Sunday school and Bible class and is active in the local LLL Men’s Club and served as Zone LLL president.  He has served as delegate to the Kansas LCMS Convention many times and has served on the Kansas District board 12 years.  He has also been the delegate for the circuit to the synodical convention several times and is the current delegate to the Milwaukee convention in 2016.  He is currently chair of the congregation's 150th anniversary celebration, to be held 2019.  He has served 27 years on the local board of supervisors for the Soil Conservation District.  He is chairman of the Horseshoe Creek Watershed.  His hobby is farming and enjoys attending his grandchildren’s many activities.

Rev. Scott Snow

Rev. Scott Snow is a 1979 graduate of Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota, and a 1983 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.  He served twenty-two (22) years in the Northern Illinois District - fifteen years as a parish pastor and seven years as an executive on the district staff. Pastor Snow then served for five years at the LCMS International Center in St. Louis, Missouri as the Director of Outreach for the LCMS World Mission - National Team beginning in August 2005.  Since 2010, he serves as the senior pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas. In 2015, he was elected as the first vice president of the LCMS Kansas District (Region 3).  He married Debra (Happel) on September 1, 1990 and the couple has three children: Rebecca, Joshua and Bethany. When asked about his “passion,” Pastor Snow comments that he is “enthusiastic about assisting, encouraging, equipping and inspiring people to frequently and intentionally share their faith in Jesus with people who do not yet know Him as Lord and Savior!
